    How to taper propranolol

Take this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. Your dose may need to be changed several times in order to find out what works best for you. In addition to the use of this medicine, treatment for your high blood pressure may include weight control and changes in the types of foods you eat, especially foods high in sodium (salt). This medicine should come with a Medication Guide and patient directions. Your doctor will tell you which of these are most important for you. You should check with your doctor before changing your diet. Many patients who have high blood pressure will not notice any signs of the problem. It is very important that you take your medicine exactly as directed and that you keep your appointments with your doctor even if you feel well. Remember that this medicine will not cure your high blood pressure, but it does help control it. Inderal (propranolol) belongs to a group of drugs called beta-blockers that block Beta-adrenergic receptors present in the heart, liver, pancreas, blood vessels, and the bronchial tree. This blockade of receptors can bring about changes in their function. The use of Inderal has been advised in conditions related to the heart and is limited for individuals experiencing asthma and diabetes. Although not classified as an anxiolytic (antianxiety and antipanic), this drug is sometimes used “off label” as an anxiolytic to treat anxiety and panic. It is also prescribed, in some cases, to treat tremors and anxiety related to Parkinsonism, migraines, and various heart conditions such as arrhythmia and angina. This medication acts on Beta-1 and Beta-2 receptors in the heart and the bronchial tree. Apart from this, Inderal’s inhibitory activity on the norepinephrine transporter (causing an increase in the release of norepinephrine in synapses) causes stimulation of Alpha-1 adrenoreceptors.

Hello, as I stated in the question I am wanting to completely get off of propranolol. I take it for chronic migraines but the side effects are not worth it in my opinion and I'd like to explore some other options for treatment. The reason why I want to stop taking it is because after taking Timolol-Maleate for 4 years I developed an allergy to it and am afraid this will happen again with the propranolol. I tried several times to get off of Timolol and failed miserably. I attempted to ween myself off of it for about a week. I was only taking a very small dose and it was working well, 10mg 2x per day. I cut that down to 5mg 2x per day over the course of a week but after it being completely removed from taking it for 3 weeks there was something seriously wrong. Even qualified doctors can't diagnose over the internet, so do bear that in mind when seeking or giving advice. I only have 24 10mg tablets left and do not want to go back to Drs to get new prescription. I have been taking Propranolol since May and have been on varied doses but mainly 20mg once a day for anxiety/panic attacks. Anyway, has anyone got experience of coming off these. Advice would be appreciated Hi Tink, I am doing exactly the same at the moment. I cut down to 40mg once a day for a week last week. I was fine for a couple of days, but the last couple of days I have had really bad palpitations and headaches. I have been on the propranolol for about 18 months, and from what I have read I think I have come off too quickly. My doctor said to wean off them and I thought the way I did it was enough.

Preventing repeated infections has been an elusive goal for the roughly 5% of women who have recurrent vaginal yeast infections, but new research should change that. The antifungal drug Diflucan, taken just once a week, was found to reduce the frequency of infections by more than 90% in a six-month study involving nearly 400 women with a history of recurrent candida vaginal infections. Sobel, MD, tells Web MD that the drug represents the first safe and highly effective preventive therapy for women with recurrent vaginal yeast infections, defined as those occurring four or more times a year. "The responses we saw in this study were remarkable," he says. "For many patients, this treatment gave them back a normal life." The women treated with Diflucan initially took three 150-milligram oral doses of the drug at 72-hour intervals, followed by a weekly 150-milligram dose taken for six months. By the end of the six-month treatment period just 8% of the women on Diflucan had experienced recurrences, compared with 64% of women in the study given a placebo pill. Citalopram should be administered as a single oral dose, either in the morning or in the evening. The tablets can be taken with or without food, but with fluid. Following treatment initiation, an antidepressant effect should not be expected for at least two weeks. Treatment should continue until the patient has been free of symptoms for 4-6 months. Citalopram should be withdrawn slowly, it is advised that the dose is gradually reduced over a period of at least one to two weeks. For older people the dose should be decreased to half of the recommended dose, e.g 10-20 mg per day. Depending on the individual response of the patient, the dose can be increased to a maximum of 20 mg/day.
